I have personally been a Curves member. (and I hate sweating) I used to go 3 times a week when Quinn was little and had after-school tutoring in the same strip mall as the Curves...it was an easy way to pass the time while he got his lesson (as opposed to eating an ice cream every time at the OTHER store in the strip mall). It's a very easy way to commit to an easy work-out. Very non-intimidating. You can dress like a slob, which is what I did, because there's no one to impress. It's just a bunch of moms and grandmas. 

How does it work? You stretch out for a few minutes (there's a chart on the wall to show you how). Then you do the "circuit" which is an alternating mix of an aerobics platform then a resistance machine (each designed to move a different muscle in your body and they show you how to use every single machine). Upbeat music plays the whole time. Then, every couple minutes, a voice tells you to switch and you move to the next spot on the circuit. Easy. Then you stretch out again at the end and you're done. You can jump on and off anytime, so there are no class times to keep track of...the circuit just goes all day long and ladies jump on and off all day long. You shoulda seen my biceps and thighs after THAT year. And when you're a member, you can use any Curves in the nation, which is a very helpful benefit.

Energy Star sales tax holiday this weekend.

During Memorial Day weekend, Texas shoppers receive a break from state and local taxes on purchases of certain energy efficient products. The second annual Energy Star sales tax holiday begins at 12:01am on Saturday May 23rd and ends at 11:59pm on Monday, May 25th.

Qualifying products include:
Air conditioners priced under $6000 (room and central units) 

Clothes washers but not clothes dryers (Since most dryers use the same amount of energy, Energy Star doesn’t label dryers)
Ceiling fans
Dehumidifiers
Dishwashers
Light bulbs (incandescent and fluorescent)

Programmable thermostats
Refrigerators priced under $2000
 
Products must display the Energy Star logo. The Energy Star designation means a product meets energy efficient guidelines set by the Environmental Protection Agency and the US Dept of Energy. Other products that are not on this list are not eligible even though they have and Energy Star designation.

The tax free holiday also applies to internet and catalog sales of eligible products.  (Provided that both the items are paid for and delivered to the purchaser during the exemption period or the purchaser orders and pays for the item and the retailer accepts payment during the exemption period for immediate shipment.)

The tax savings also include the labor required to install qualifying items, and on the delivery, shipping and handling charges.

Circular Surfer: Whole Foods Deals 5.20 - 5.26

Attention Whole Foods Shoppers, we're adding your store this week to the Circular Surfer. And here is Briana from Bargain Briana with the list of deals and coupon match-ups.

Strategies for shopping at Whole Foods: Find "The Whole Deal" newsletter at check-out and check out the coupons in there! Go on-line to eBay and locate coupon sellers who are selling stacks of coupons they've cut out of the Mambo Sprouts booklets in groups of 10 and 20. (Whole Foods used to give these away at check-out, but have since produced their OWN coupon book with coupons you can only use at Whole Foods. BOO.) They do not double or triple any coupons, but they do accept internet printables. You can find printables for some organic and natural foods here and here. Read Briana's strategies here.

I have often found produce deals randomly when I visit that are even comparable in price to Fiesta (which is hard to do). The price for Organic Valley Milk is always less here than at Kroger (weird). And if you are as into Rice Milk as we are, buy the 365 Organic Vanilla Rice Milk, as it is THE cheapest of any brand anywhere.

Circular Surfer: Giant Eagle Deals 5.20 - 5.26

Attention Giant Eagle Shoppers: Here's Stacy from Saving in Akron with this week's Giant Eagle deals here.

You won't believe Stacy's extensive list...it even includes at the Catalina Deals going on right now at Giant Eagle. Those are the coupons for $$ off your next trip to the store, that print out at the register after your transaction, when you buy certain items. Study those, add coupons to the items required, and your costs go way down. It also looks like Giant Eagle doubles coupons up to .99¢ all the time, AND accepts internet printable coupons.

In addition, you earn $.10 off per gallon of gas in fuel perks for every $50 your spend, and right now in Pittsburgh and Columbus, you earn Food Perks by using your Advantage Card at Get Go stations. So not only do you get to cash in on some great coupon deals, you can earn FREE gas too. Remember, you can buy gift cards there to do your other shopping and earn fuel perks on those too.

Circular Surfer: Brookshire's Deals 5.20 - 5.26

You do need a Brookshire’s “Thank You” card for most sale prices. The card is free and can be obtained at the customer service desk. Every Brookshires may have a different coupon policy. Some double coupons, some do not. Check with your local Brookshires for their policy before you shop. Did you know that Brookshires will give you .05¢ credit for every reusable bag you bring and use when you check-out?

Circular Surfer: Tom Thumb Deals 5.20 - 5.26

Attention Tom Thumb shoppers. We have Hollie from Happy Couponing with this week's deals at Tom Thumb here. 

Remember, you can load Cellfire coupons here, P&G eSavers coupons here, and Shortcuts coupons here, directly onto your Tom Thumb Rewards Card! Do this first, then find paper coupons or print internet coupons for the same things and stack your coupons for extra savings.

Tom Thumb's coupon policy is that to triple your coupon if it's up to .35¢, and double it if it's up to .50¢, but only ONE LIKE COUPON per transaction. I have stacked manufacturer's coupons with those "Super Coupons" they print in their circulars, on the same item. So you should be able to do that too. Here is their official coupon policy to print and take with you to the store in your coupon binder.

You earn ¢ off each gallon of gas as you accumulate purchases. Once I filled up and got .20¢ off each gallon for that fill-up. Sweet! So, get a Rewards Card if you choose to shop there. They also let you earn AA miles for your purchases so if that's important to you, sign up for that as well when you get your card.
