Rethink what freedom feels like.

End of the line.

Getting to the end of 2009 was to me like driving a train with no brakes into a tunnel with a dead end. Not alot of freedom involved there. What with holiday preparations, blog writing, toddler wrangling, graphic designing, (and did I mention that we replaced our entire heating and cooling system in November?) and all the countless mommy things that happen every day, it's a wonder to me I survived that out-of-control feeling and made it to 2010. What the heck was I thinking? I thought that being a stay-at-home mother AND a work-at-home mother would make me the master of my own destiny. Yeah, that's freedom. Forget THE MAN. Forget THE PAYCHECK. I'm the boss. I can do it all. I'm queen of the world, right? Well, at least MY little corner of the world.

Train jumps track.

This year, I'm rethinking what freedom should feel like. Because I didn't feel like I had much of it last year. I got the idea from this website called Rethink What Matters here. This is a site set up by Bare Escentuals, the bareMinerals make-up company, so that you can sound-off about rethinking things yourself. This week, you can rethink Freedom, like I have. (And by the way, they are giving away like 500 make-up items, and some other juicy big prizes too.) Every Friday, they'll give you a new topic to rethink and soapbox about.

My new year's re-thinking re-solutions this time are not in any formal list type of format. Freedom from lists? They're more about physically and mentally feeling well. (As opposed to that aforementioned train-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel feeling.)

Freedom is the right to say "NO" to anyone or anything.

Freedom is sleeping when I'm tired. Eating when I'm hungry.

Freedom is my newly prescribed peace of mind. (Better living thru modern pharmaceuticals!)

Freedom is thinking what's the worst that could happen if I don't do something RIGHT NOW, recognizing that it's probably not so bad then, and saying "Eh, I don't care."

Freedom is cutting off all your hair. Yes, I really did it this week. Think Robert Downey Jr in Sherlock Holmes. That. is. my. hair. now.

And, so far, so good for me on the Freedom Front. Yes, I realize it's only the fourth week of the entire year. I'm probably overly optimistic and newly giddy from my daily dose of the lovely and talented Lexapro. But, I'll try not to let my train run off the tracks again.
