Take the edge off the in-laws this holiday season by taking them to Medieval Times for their all new show featuring a herd of Spanish Knights, a King, a Bad Guy, and of course A Pretty Princess (not me). I took my family (sans in-laws) to the new Dallas show for an evening of eating gourmet grub with our fingers and screaming at cute boys with long hair and tights whack each other with real swords. Sounds cool, huh? Dallas is the first of all the castles in the US to have the new show, and it's a doozie.

If you've never been to Medieval Times, you need to go at least once in your life. It would be accurate to say it was a combination Broadway show/Amusement Park/Museum. Except there's also real horses, and falcons, jousting and more food than King Henry the Eighth could eat in one sitting. Seriously.

Here's the food I ate (utensil-free):
Tomato Bisque
Focaccia Bread with Olive Oil and Seasoning
Oven Roasted Chicken
Larger BBQ Spare Rib
Herb-Basted Potato Split into Two Quarters
Spiced Carrot
Braided Apple Strudel
Larger Beverage Servings and Coffee

There's even somewhat of a Renaissance Fair and Market outside of the arena before the show. Luka got his face painted by an artist. And, he talked us into a tiny sword, so he could practice his knight moves.

Others were getting knighted by the King before the show began. But the show was visually stunning once we got into the arena, with lights, smoke, and music. There's actually an original soundtrack and storyline to the show, which I did not expect. I felt like I was right on the set of one of the Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table type movies.

The audience was divided into sections, each cheering for their particular knight. We all had flags the color of our knight and screamed for him every time he knocked someone else off their horse. It was all very primitive and exciting to scream at the melee while waving a chicken leg like a member of the royal court. And one does scream even louder when one's particular knight starts throwing flowers at girls in the audience.

But, wait, there's more! Right now, Medieval Times has specials for you get upgraded to "Royalty" for half-price when you buy tickets. Royalty upgrades get you better seats, commemorative DVDs (which Luka cannot stop watching), photos with the King, and more. And, check out the Medieval Times Holiday Advent Calendar with a surprise behind every calendar day this month here.
