I am not a cooker. I am an eater.
If you live in Dallas, you probably read about or attend A LOT of festivals. We like festivals here, and will use any excuse to have one. The one I'm looking forward to the most happens to be this weekend.
This is the festival of food-not-cooked-by-me. Taste Addison 2012. There are 60+ restaurants in Addison (a mere 15 minutes up the tollway from downtown) that will be cooking for me. All in the same place at the same time. *squee*
The Khao Soi from Thai Star was the winner.
I went to a preview Taste Competition between 20 of the chefs, and tasted their special dishes created just for Taste Addison. You can actually have the special dishes the whole month of May at each of their respective restaurants. Chefs were charged with creating something spectacular not currently on the menu, that can be prepared in 20 minutes or less, and they got bonus points if their recipe included either Coke or Dos Equis beer.
Meyer Rum & Coke Pork Tenderloin from Chamberlain's
I learned that you can make a Dos Equis reduction. That you can and should marinade pork tenderloin in Coke. That bleu cheese is *awesome* on pizza. You can taste all this goodness and more at Taste Addison, where all the restaurants will be serving generous samplings of their menus at reduced prices Friday evening after 6pm until midnight, Saturday after noon until midnight, and Sunday after noon until 5pm.
You can get tickets at the door, or buy $10 Anytime Tickets at your local Albertson's. Details here.
There's a Midway and Carnival rides for your kids to enjoy while you are scarfing down some Tacos de Trompo al Pastor from Los Lupes, or noshing on Shrimp and Goat Cheese Bruschetta from BlackFinn. You can even see the chefs and some Dallas Cowboys doing cooking demos in the Addison Conference Center as the Albertson's GridIron Greats pretty much on the hour every hour.
Bartender Flair Exhibition on Saturday night.
A live performance of the Dr Seuss book Go Dog Go.
Did I mention that Rhett Miller is playing this festival? *swoon*
