Make sure every kid has a #HungerFreeSummer

The ConAgra Foods Foundation.
For 20 years, ConAgra Foods Foundation has made fighting child hunger, especially over the summer, part of it's mission. Half of the foundation's ten million dollar commitment to Feeding America and it's network of food banks across America is dedicated to summer hunger support.

Grants are given to food banks as "Hunger-Free Summer Grants" all over the country to fill in the feeding gaps left when kids who need meal assistance go home for the summer and don't have access to their next meal, like they do at school during the school year.

This is the fourth year of the Hunger-Free Summer program, and the foundation has delivered more than 2.5 million meals and snacks to children. I am writing this sponsored post for ConAgra Foods, as a part of their effort to publicize Hunger-Free Summer.

How Hunger-Free Summer grants fill the gap.
Across the country 21.5 million kids rely on free or reduced-price meals during the school year. My own kids both attend public schools with a higher than average percentage of children on free or reduced-price meals. But most are left without access to food during the summer because of low awareness of existing programs, geographic barriers and lack of transportation, and simply the limited availability of summer meal program funding. This is where Hunger-Free Summer grants come in.

This year, 29 food banks in 20 states will receive Hunger-Free Summer grants – ranging from $20,000 to $50,000 – to give this access to food back to these kids.

How you can donate a meal – at no cost to you.
Actor Chris O'Donnell and his family are helping to get the word out about Hunger-Free Summer. You can help by watching his Hunger Free Summer video (which triggers a donation from ConAgra) or donate to your local food bank. Click this link to watch and donate for free.

Find the Feeding America food bank nearest you here. My local food bank, The North Texas Food Bank in Dallas received a Hunger Free Summer Grant to help feed the kids in my community this summer. We've driven trunkfuls of food there, it's easy to donate as you can see.

Hunger-Free Summer is a national program established by Feeding America and ConAgra Foods Foundation to make sure that kids get fed during the summer months, when their school feeding programs are not up and running. 1 in 5 kids in America doesn't know where their next meal is coming from.
